    Description

    The maker is not noted on this pair, though they are US made, the metal a black coated heavY Spelter.  One of the two, the near mint example, has an attached small copper shield under the cup which states, "NAVY AIR BASE, KODIAK ALASKA", a base which remains on Kodiak Island...an island noted for its huge Grizzly bears.  These book ends show a mother bear with paws around a tree stump while a cub sits near her.  The second book end does not have that shield, and it also has some white spotting on it which is likely the effect of water against the spelter metal.  This white residue does rub away with difficulty, but because of the hair texture it is hard to remove.  So, consider this a lot with one perfect book end having the Kodiak Air Base shield, and another matching bookend with the white inclusions.  They measure about 5 1/2" H x 4 3/4" W x 2 1/2" D, and each weighs approx 2 pounds.  Check out my OTHER ITEMS/SELLER STORE.
